Depression does not just effect a specific age group, gender, race or people of a specific class it affects everyone but in this case we will focus more on teenagers because it is more common in teens than in adults.
Some people get depressed but others do not so why?
There isn't just one reason as to why some gets depressed, sometimes its can be biological or genetically passed down to someone or the imbalance of hormones. Some its the environment they are surrounded by including social and family problems we face. Sometimes its the personality, like how we react to events that happen in our daily lives or the support systems we create in our lives. All these things can determine if someone is depressed or not.
Genes.
Research shows depression runs in families. This genes can be inherited and can be a possible contribution to depression but just because someone in your family has depression that does not necessarily mean you will have it too. And there are some families with no history of depression but still have family members that are depressed.
Stress and hormones.
Things like stress and usage of alcohol and drugs which will affects the hormones and brain can be a factor of depression. So trying to be healthy and not taking in too much alcohol or drugs plus exercising and can enough sleep can help.
Life events, family and social environment.
Sometimes the death of a family member, pet or close friend goes beyond normal grief and these types of traumatic events can cause depression. Parents divorcing ,fighting or remarrying can cause a change of mood in a family leading to an unhappy atmosphere which can cause depression. Other living factors that can contribute to depression is like poverty, homelessness and violence in a household.
These are just a few factors that can contribute to depression but there are ways to build resilience
trying to think more positively and telling yourself that setbacks and problems are solvable.
